The Role

We have an exciting opportunity to join one of the leading Engineering Schools in the UK where you will support and inspire the next generation of Newcastle University engineering graduates.

As a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Computational Mechanics and Engineering Design, you will have an outstanding record in mechanical engineering, particularly in engineering design using data-driven mechanics, design optimization and modelling. You will work within and across boundaries to address major research challenges, attract grant income, generate high quality impact outcomes and expand existing capability in the School and University. The post holder will also be expected to actively contribute to the planning, governance and delivery of an innovative, positive and inspiring mechanical engineering educational offer. Preference will be given to candidates whose expertise bridges fundamental and applied aspects of engineering design.

The post is in the Mechanical Engineering & Marine Technology discipline, specifically the Design, Manufacturing and Materials (DMM) Academic Group.  With interdisciplinary ambition, however, you will be expected to contribute to the further development of our expertise in areas of interest through supporting existing research initiatives, developing new ones, and contributing to teaching on our UG and PG Mechanical Engineering and Engineering programmes, and relevant industry focussed CPD programmes.

The School aspires to grow its capability with strategic appointments that support world-class research. The post holder will be based at the state-of-the-art new £110m Stephenson Building.

The School is widely recognised for the quality of its teaching and research and aspires to grow its capability with strategic appointments that support world-leading research, innovative teaching programmes and outstanding student experience.  This position provides a significant opportunity for a highly motivated and productive individual to develop their research and teaching career, within a successful and supportive environment.

Expertise in your research field should be matched by an outstanding research record that builds on our strengths in fields such as Transport Systems, Digital Manufacturing and Metrology and Advanced Transmission Systems.

You will have growing international visibility, and contribute to the full spectrum of academic activities, including research, teaching and leadership, in a School that is committed to creating an inclusive environment, where staff and students are valued and respected and have equal opportunities to succeed.

We believe that a rich mix of people with different backgrounds will help us to create a team in which intellectually ambitious academics will want to work and create a collegiate environment. Our diverse staff attracts a broad range of bright, active and engaged students.

We are keen to attract applicants who:

  • Will actively contribute to all aspects of the Discipline, and the School.
  • Have a strategic approach and see a wide range of options in their own work and the work of the School.
  • Are enthusiastic and committed to new ventures and innovations in teaching

All applicants who fulfil the criteria are welcome. We are keen to offer opportunities to people from groups who are currently underrepresented. All applications will be considered on the merits, experience and qualifications of the candidate as these relate to the requirements and specifications of the post.

Post Available:1x full time, open-ended position
