Computational Engineer and Architecture Lead

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role Computational Engineer and Architecture Lead are to:

 

  • Lead highly trained PhD level computer scientists and data engineers that leverage state of the art computational tools and cloud engineering solutions to build deployment models in the cloud that will drive the implementation of science-based simulation models mathematical methods and algorithms and software tools required to address the technical barriers to the development of next generation technologies;
  • Be accountable for the platform strategy vision and roadmap to direct the delivery of digital functionality and pipeline orchestration that increases efficiency and performance field analytics genomic/genetic analytics computer vision and lab automation/processes to accelerate insights and decision-making initiatives;
  • Understand and adhere with the overarching architecture framework standards governance models blueprints and processes; and provides recommendations to enhance further specifically related to cloud and security (DevSecOps lifecycle). Decisions made in this role will determine Plant Biotech’s strategy towards compliance with government mandated security initiatives throughout R&D and is critical in maintaining our freedom to operate. Role requires building out a comprehensive map that identifies security vulnerabilities in our computing environments and determines processes to build a secure computing environment;
  • Consult functional stakeholders and leadership to understand and shape digital strategies and to identify pain points in the organization to improve efficiency and decision making and new data driven business models;
  • Collaborate with Plant Biotech stakeholders and technical teams to provide business strategy leadership and guidance to prioritize key business challenges in alignment with Bayer Enterprise IT initiatives and on priority cross enterprise technology opportunities and challenges external providers (e.g.: Amazon Web Services Google and Microsoft Azure) to identify cross enterprise technology opportunities to solve the key business challenges.

Required qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Management Computer Science Data Engineering or related field;
  • Experience in creating strategic product roadmaps from conception to launch;
  • Excellent organizational oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong understanding of the data lifecycle and how data policy/standards contribute to the overall value of data assets;
  • Ability to lead through influence working in a cross functional team building relationships with engineering teams and business stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated success developing and enacting complex strategies and initiatives to significantly drive R&D or IT impact and value creation;
  • Strong communication critical thinking and influencing skills;
  • Proven track record of successfully leading developing skilled team members in a global environment.

 

Preferred qualifications:

 

  • At least 5 years of experience;
  • At least 3 years of project management and/or people leadership experience.
