Position Overview: The Academic Technologist and Computational Science and Engineering (CSE)
Instructor is responsible for teaching one Middle School computer science/engineering class,
co-teaching a sixth grade STEAM rotating class, and working with faculty and staff to support student
learning. There is also the possibility of co-teaching or teaching an Upper School computer science or
engineering course. The computer science and engineering curriculum in the Middle School introduces
students to animation, design, digital arts, programming, and robotics. The digital fluency students
develop in this program is critical to their interest and success in upper school computer science and
engineering courses. This individual will work closely with the Academic Technology, Information
Technology, and Library Services teams as well as other faculty to assist colleagues in supporting
student learning and strategically plan and implement innovative projects. Additionally, the candidate
should enjoy working with Middle and Upper School students.

Essential Functions of Position:
● Conceptualizes and stewards full use of technology and maker environments as unique,
evolving, flexible learning spaces that allow students to engage in creative problem solving and
prototyping.
● Teaches at least one Middle School computing and engineering class.
● Co-teaches a rotating STEAM class with a Middle School art instructor.
● Creates a welcoming physical and digital environment that promotes collaboration and
inclusion, as well as allow for active, participatory, and inquiry-based learning.
● Facilitates the development and implementation of innovative learning activities inside and
outside the classroom.
● Collaborates with the Upper School in the development of a competitive computer science and
engineering curriculum.
● Collaborates with the Middle School librarian & others to find opportunities that champion
digital citizenship, online safety, and adherence to copyright and fair use requirements for the
greater good.
● Coordinates with the Information Team (Academic Tech, Information Tech, and Library
Services) and other faculty to develop new instructional uses of technology and support existing
ones.
● Designs and implements professional development programs on the use of current and
evolving technologies to meet curriculum goals.
● Proactively shares resources and ideas regarding evolving technology with students, faculty,
and administration.
● Provides general (non-IT) technology support to faculty and students.
● Builds a professional network and maintains current knowledge of technology and pedagogy
related to the use of technology. Continues to grow as a professional technology educator and
educational leader.
● Prepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
● Maintains student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
● Evaluates and grades students’ class work, assignments, and papers.
● Performs additional duties as assigned by the Heads of Middle School and other administrators.
Professional Expertise:
● Experience teaching computer science and/or engineering classes or demonstrated interest,
commitment, and ability to teach both
● Knowledgeable about animation, design, programming, robotics, and other digital
environments that provide a challenging and inspiring learning experience for Middle & Upper
School students
● Advanced study or working background in science, math, or engineering

Position Requirements:
● Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) with significant coursework and/or classroom
experience in STEAM disciplines, including the principles of computational thinking.
● The drive, organization, and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the
school community beyond the classroom.
● Excellent written and oral communication skills to facilitate effective communication with
students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors.
● Employment of a variety of techniques, including the meaningful use of technology, to engage
students and further their critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity.
● A strong desire to work in a collaborative learning community, employing a growth mindset
and participating in ongoing professional development during the school year and summer.
● Desire and ability to develop an atmosphere of trust and knowledge of students as individuals.
● Purposefully designs curriculum, instruction, and assessment in order to reach a diverse
community of learners (academically, culturally, racially, religiously, etc.).
● Demonstrated flexibility and responsiveness to a variety of learning styles and across a range of
abilities.

Physical demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and use
hands to finger. The employee is often required to stand, walk, and reach with their hands. The
employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this
