Are you passionate about national security and dream of leading a dynamic team to explore innovative solutions to some of the nations most challenging problems?

We are seeking a highly motivated Director to lead our Computation and Analysis for National Security Center which unites advanced capabilities across multiple subject areas to protect the governments civilian cyber infrastructure while also enhancing the nations security through the application of systems modeling to complex problems. We conduct research develop tools and methods and apply decision-support and situational awareness capabilities to a broad range of national security missions.

In this role you will lead a management team and work closely with customers at our California site. In addition you will serve as a member of the division leadership team and will partner with other division directors to ensure success of all programs for which the division is responsible. You will also lead and participate on multiple leadership teams and serve on various internal and external working groups and advisory boards. Some additional responsibilities include serving as the Homeland Infrastructure Security & Resilience Program Area Director and Sandia's Civilian Cyber Center of Excellence Director (as part of the Lab's Cyber Board of Directors).

On any given day you may be called on to:

  • Drive and align the Centers strategic plan with national needs and Sandias strategic goals and steward and advance the Centers capabilities (as embodied in the organizations staff facilities and tools) in support of that plan
  • Provide customer interface and support for Sandia customers and sponsors (both internal and external) including other national laboratories (e.g. Pacific Northwest National Laboratory) and federal agencies (e.g. NNSA DHS DoD)
  • Provide input and implement vision and developmental roadmaps and provide overall strategic integration and direction for Groups and Departments within the Center
  • Lead mentor and develop your management team and staff with an emphasis on building a diverse and inclusive team
  • Assure safe and secure program execution (Center-level indirect and program budgets staffing and deliverables) and address performance and execution gaps
  • Oversee activities to ensure they are completed in a safe and balanced manner and in accordance with established ES&H requirements

Qualifications We Require:

  • Master's degree or above in computer science mathematics engineering or relevant technical field with at least 10 years of relevant experience; OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 8 or more years of managerial experience including leading and directing managers and complex organizations
  • Experience and/or education that includes computational modeling or analysis software engineering or cyber security
  • Previous involvement in and proven ability to continually improve the Center's commitment to diversity & inclusion
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security along with an SCI clearance which may require a polygraph test

Qualifications We Desire:

  • PhD in computer science engineering or mathematics
  • History of successful external program development communications and leadership
  • Experience working with external customers and sponsors including DHS
  • Active SCI clearance
  • Ability to develop a culture of inclusion and take an active leadership role in modeling and growing values in diversity equality and inclusion
  • Demonstrated ability to build energize and lead large teams and programs across geographic institutional and organizational boundaries.
  • Familiarity with the Computing & Information Sciences Research Foundation and Sandias research community
  • Experience running 24x7x365 operational capabilities
  • Integrative problem solver with proven ability to tackle complex multidimensional problems with due consideration for business and strategic consequences
  • Ability to manage business and organizational vision by communicating a compelling purpose leading change cross-organizationally and inspiring and motivating people and organizations
  • Successful track record managing and leading programs involving classified information
  • Experience with Sandia program portfolios especially a working knowledge of Nuclear Deterrence and Energy & Homeland Security programs
  • Proven ability to create and maintain a safe secure and effective environment for all work activities and employees

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references credit law enforcement records and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access both of which require US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e. of the U.S. and another country) your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.
