Position Description University of Calgary Continuing Education (UCCE) houses one of Canada's largest and most successful continuing education departments. It is a multi-disciplinary unit offering diploma, certificate and non-degree programs in the classroom and online through technologies for course delivery. In support of the University of Calgary's core principles and financial objectives, Continuing Education is an academic unit with a mandate to respond to the needs of the community through the design, development and delivery of high-quality lifelong learning opportunities. Each year, UCCE serves over 20,000 adult learners and offers more than one thousand courses taught by hundreds of instructors—all experts in their fields. It is expected to fund, through revenue generation, the majority of its operational costs while contributing financially to the university. The success of University of Calgary Continuing Education in meeting its business target in a competitive environment is dependent upon effectively serving students and by providing high-quality instruction and programs. Position Description University of Calgary Continuing Education is currently recruiting for Instructors (contract (term) position) to teach the following courses: 1. Cybersecurity, an overview of the risk to an organization 2. Cloud Computing 3. Digital Transformation: the new company challenge 4. Blockchain: Value, Impact and Application 5. Artificial Intelligence (AI) These courses are for non-technical individuals that wish to learn about the particular subject matter, its application, risks and opportunities. These courses will be offered in Classroom or Online delivery. Dates to be determined. Scope of Responsibilities (high level) 1. Create effective lessons plans, develop content, learning activities, presentations, and in some cases assignments, or evaluations. 2. Utilize Desire2Learn for all course materials, assessment and, student communication. 3. (If online) Utilize Desire2Learn (D2L) and Adobe Connect to facilitate synchronous and asynchronous course delivery including all course materials, experiences and student communication. Qualifications 1. Master’s degree or equivalent and work experience in the field. 2. Subject matter expertise in the required field. 3. Industry experience with the ability to illustrate your teaching with real life examples. 4. Adult learning certificate or equivalent is an asset. 5. Previous teaching experience is essential (designing content for a course, training or presentation); post-secondary teaching experience is preferred. 6. Previous experience utilizing Learning Management Systems such as Desire2Learn, Adobe Connect, Blackboard or Moodle, is preferred. 7. Excellent interpersonal, and presentation skills required. Session dates are to be determined and may vary in length. In-classroom courses may be offered at either the University of Calgary’s main campus, or at the University’s Downtown Calgary Campus. These instructional positions are non-credit teaching appointments and, as such, are contract positions without benefits (other than those required by Employment Standards).
