Salary Range:

$86300 - $166800 *Salary range is estimated and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidates experience and qualifications and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a Computational Science/Engineering Researcher (R&D S&E Computer Science) with a background and interest in the broadly defined and interdisciplinary computational science domain to include uncertainty quantification machine learning and related areas. We are particularly interested in applicants excited by the prospect of advancing these techniques and applying them to scientific and engineering applications relevant to Sandias diverse missions which includes energy systems and power grid climate modeling computational epidemiology and many other national security domains.

On any given day you may be called on to:

  • Perform computational research for a wide variety of domains including thermal fluid dynamics aero and/or reacting material. These analyses and simulations will support a variety of projects for internal and external customers (e.g. the Department of Energy).
  • Develop and use tools to conduct computational simulation studies for verification and validation (VV) and/or UQ as applied to Sandias diverse mission space.
  • Apply and develop uncertainty quantification methods and machine learning tools in your analysis.
  • Work closely with teams of code developers analysts and experimentalists to perform analysis of complex and challenging problems.
  • Collaborate and interact closely with scientists engineers and other researchers and analysts across the laboratory at both the California and New Mexico sites.

Qualifications We Require:

  • PhD in a field of chemical/physical sciences applied mathematics or engineering
  • Knowledge and expertise in machine learning and/or uncertainty quantification
  • Knowledge and expertise in computational science and software development

Qualifications We Desire:

  • The use of state-of-the-art machine learning tools (e.g. Tensorflow Pytorch) in the physical sciences and engineering applications
  • Knowledge and expertise in C++ and Python
  • Experience in performing collaborative research
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

About Our Team:

The Quantitative Modeling and Analysis Department conducts research development and systems engineering in computer science and engineering to address important complex national security problems. Key research areas include uncertainty quantification optimization inference modeling data analysis and algorithm development. Much of our application development work focuses on verification validation and uncertainty quantification of complex problems. We provide trusted design and software development for large operations software as well as detailed scientific computing software. The work is focused on providing efficient validated information and technologies for use in predictive modeling and decision making.

Security Clearance:
