A computational chemistry postdoctoral research position with possible teaching opportunities is available in the Tschumper research group at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS. The appointment can begin immediately but preferably no later than August 2022. The position is for a minimum of 1 year, with funding anticipated for at least 3 years, and it could potentially include some instructional responsibilities for those interested in opportunities to gain teaching experience.
Applicants must have completed, or anticipate completing in the near future, a Ph.D. in computational chemistry, theoretical chemistry or a closely related field. Outstanding individuals with a strong publication record and computational chemistry expertise that compliment active research projects in the Tschumper lab are strongly encouraged to apply, including collaborative projects with other faculty in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
Candidates must have
• Outstanding computer skills in linux
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• The ability to work effectively in a group as part of the team
• Experience with popular electronic structure theory packages (such as Gaussian, Molpro, PSI4, CFOUR, ORCA, GAMESS, NWChem, etc.)
• Experience with one or more common scripting/programming languages for scientific research (such as Python, C++, etc.)
With minimal supervision, the successful candidate will be expected to:
• Conduct computational and theoretical research for assigned projects in the group
• Interpret/extract physical meaning from the results of the computations/simulations
• Write manuscripts for publication in scientific journals
• Provide training and assist in the supervision of graduate and undergraduate students in the group
