Process Sciences is a technical services department that deals with a range of scientific, technical, engineering and mathematical needs from the laboratory to the manufacturing floor. Process Sciences support the following areas Upstream Sciences, Downstream Sciences, Analytical Technologies, IPC lifecycle, Data Analytics, Manufacturing Support, Process Validation and Process Solutions.
Summary:
Supports the Process Sciences department to create bioprocess models using mechanistic modelling and other techniques to generate technical solutions across the bio manufacturing platform.
Based at the Raheen site, the Associate Process Specialist will work with mathematicians, engineers and scientists. This role will focus on the use of advanced chemical and biochemical engineering modelling principles within manufacturing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Source and assess appropriate technical data from manufacturing and other equipment across the network.
- Build and maintain mathematical models of biochemical processes including cell kinetics modelling and liquid chromatography modelling, among others.
- Understand and apply mathematical modelling principles related to Michaelis–Menten kinetics, transport-reaction models, fluid flow in porous media and mass transfer models.
- Work with the Computational Fluid Dynamics team to advise on models that are representative of process and equipment.
- Work collaboratively with mathematicians, engineers and scientists across the network.
- Prepare presentations summarizing project outcomes for management, supporting documentation and reports.
- Work effectively and efficiently in a team-oriented environment to ensure maximum and high-quality output.
- Conduct extensive literature searches and reviews to identify industry-leading techniques for model development and validation.
Education and Experience:
BSc/BEng in Mathematical Sciences, Mathematical Modelling, Chemical and/or Biochemical Engineering, or Physics. Some experience working with MATLAB, Python, GoSilico and/or CADET software and knowledge of discretization schemes, numerical solutions of partial differential equations and model suitability preferred but not essential. Level will be commensurate with experience and education.
