We are looking for a motivated and qualified Research Scientist with background in Computational Chemistry at R&D centre of excellence of Svante located at Burnaby (near Vancouver), BC, Canada. This person will work on computational modeling/screening of various sorbents for CO2 capture.

This person will take responsibility that, at all times, he/she represents Svante Goals and Values to internal and external customers and suppliers.


Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:


  • Design and build computational chemistry pipelines
  • Support sorbent development team to design/screen new sorbents for CO2 capture
  • Predict CO2, water, and other species isotherms at different temperatures using GCMC
  • Detail level & fundamental interpretation of experimental sorbent results, evaluate process, verify measured data, and validate model
  • Interface with external partners (Universities, research centers, industrial partners)
  • Setup/take care of hardware to run simulations physically or in cloud
  • Follow lean culture of Svante

 

Key Qualifications:


  • PhD in computational chemistry, or physics or relevant majors
  • Experience and deep knowledge with density functional theory (DFT), GCMC, Force Field, semi-empirical quantum mechanics, and molecular dynamics and their application for periodic structures such as MOF materials
  • Experience with adsorption science/modeling
  • Experience with MOF molecular design/crystallography
  • Proof record of publications in the computational chemistry/DFT/GCMC for CO2 capture is an asset
  • Experience with Raspa, Material Studio, VASP, CASTEP, Gaussian or other relevant software
  • Ability to work both independently and with cross-functional teams
  • Self-motivated, passionate, and creative about bringing new ideas to team
  • Flexible attitude to work time when necessary and ability to organize, re-prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Good time management
  • Good communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with a creative approach to science and engineering
  • Intrinsic motivation with a fundamental love of science
  • The ability to learn and adapt quickly
  • Advanced skills in computational chemistry
  • Experience with materials discovery and screening
  • Experience with surface chemistry
  • Experience with water isotherm prediction of sorbents and water force fields
  • Machine learning experience
  • Experience with integrating machine learning and computational chemistry systems
