Position:         Junior Simulation Engineer

Location:         Richmond, BC, Canada

General Fusion is transforming how the world is energized by developing the first commercially-viable fusion power plant. Fusion will deliver clean, safe, and on-demand power at industrial scale, providing a powerful complement to renewables and a pathway to a zero-emissions grid. 

Combining new technologies, proven industrial processes, and advances in fundamental fusion science, General Fusion aims to be the first in the world to develop commercial fusion power. Key performance requirements have been demonstrated at the system level, setting the stage for building a pre-commercial fusion power prototype.

Position Overview:

General Fusion is looking to expand our applied Physics team and are looking for a Junior Simulation Engineer to assist our Computational Fluid Dynamics / Reduced Order Modelling group.  This is a technical position that requires variety of technical skills, attention to the details, being comfortable with fast paced environment and ever evolving tasks. It also requires ability to interface with stakeholders of various technical backgrounds and willingness to understand and deliver required solutions. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • post-processing of the simulations results 
  • extracting relevant data and communicating to various stakeholders
  • running parameter scans and optimization using in-house reduced order modelling codes
  • performing routine Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations using open source and commercial CFD codes 
  • comparing Experimental and Simulation results and suggesting / implementing improvements to streamline the simulation process

Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Physics, Fluid mechanics, Computational sciences or related fields.

Required:

  • A Background in fluid mechanics and heat transfer
  • Understanding of CFD principles and the ability to apply them to practical problems
  • Programming skills and a willingness to learn new codes/languages
  • Familiarity with MATLAB, Python or C++
  • A positive attitude and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree an asset
  • Experience with open source code such as Open FOAM 
  • Experience with Linux/Unix 
  • Experience with running/post-processing simulations on medium/large parallel computers 
  • Experience with optimization techniques 
  • Familiarity with experimental methods in fluid mechanics 
  • Some knowledge of electromagnetic theory
