Overview:

In this role, the Statistical Analyst I will be primarily responsible for the conduct of routine to moderately complex statistical analyses and application of technical skills toward the curation, management, cleaning, validation and extraction of data from multiple data sources in support of a wide variety of clinical research projects within the Population Outcomes Research Unit at the UOHI. Areas of responsibilities will include collaborating with investigators in the planning and design of analytic plans for research projects, as well as performing statistical analysis, compiling and interpreting statistical results and reports of the completed projects. May provide direction to others in how to carry out work tasks.

Works in accordance with the provisions of applicable health and safety legislation and all OHIRC/UOHI corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to occupational health and safety.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs data management, cleaning, quality and resolves data issues across multiple databases;
  • Prepares derived datasets for the analyses using a variety of statistical software packages, including R, SAS or others (based on data obtained from the database manager);
  • Contributes to the development of statistical methods and analytic plans in the composition of research protocols, scientific papers, grants and abstracts;
  • Performs sample size/power calculations;
  • Programs and validates statistical analyses using a variety of statistical software packages, including R, SAS or others;
  • Prepares and delivers reports for interim and final analyses and contributes to the interpretation and publication of research results;
  • Provides statistical advice to Institute researchers;
  • Complies with all Institute policies and SOPs as well as regulatory requirements for the programming, analysis and reporting of research projects;
  • Applies established statistical methods and techniques to analyze and interpret data;
  • Identifies the appropriate method of statistical analysis and apply statistical techniques to interpret data;
  • Contributes to the preparation of statistical/methods sections of scientific papers, funding proposals, grants, and abstracts;
  • Provides advice regarding data collection and analysis required for research projects;
  • Applies specialized knowledge and scientific principles to review, critically appraise and interpret published literature
  • Researches pertinent literature in a designed project area and analyses the applicability of the concepts;
  • Facilitates meetings and prepares recommendations on statistical and reporting strategies;
  • Exchanges information with colleagues and statistical experts and explains statistical approaches to others who do not have the equivalent knowledge in statistical methods;
  • Develops and delivers presentations and training sessions;
  • Safeguards the confidentiality of study data.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Statistics or related field of study.
  • Requires 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with ICES and CIHI data and working with Statistics Canada microdata in any of the Research Data Centers within the Canadian Research Data Centre Network (CRDCN) is preferred.
