Contribute to PNNL’s goals in Computational Chemistry as part of the Lab’s Physical Sciences Division (PSD). As a Staff Scientist in the Division, you will join a talented, multi-investigator team to lead the NWChemEx effort to explore the computational understanding of the molecular-level basis for multiscale processes, as well as develop efforts in the area of biomolecular physics. You will work to bring your research areas to bear on challenging processes in chemistry, biochemistry, and biology, building teams among the NWChemEx team as well as the computational sciences community at PNNL at large and leading the development of new programs in ASCR and NIH. We will also expect the successful candidate to serve as a link between the Division’s in PCSD, the PSD and the Advanced Computing, Mathematics, and Data Division (ACMDD). The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have direct connections with the Office of Science, Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR). You will also have an established national or international computational sciences reputation as evidenced by a strong publication and funding record, including funding with the National Institutes of Health, as well as a strong connection with industry. What you will do: Lead the NWChemEx team in developing the HPC software Connect with the NWChem and SPEC software development teams Lead the NWChemEx redirection and extension in 2022 Provide leadership for PNNL at the laboratory level in the ASCR and NIH domains Publish high impact science in leading journals Lead the development of research proposals, in particular for ASCR and NIH Build teams within PCSD and PNNL between the computational staff as well as building strong partnerships with experimental scientists Minimum Qualifications BS degree with 9+ years of experience, or Master’s degree with 7+ years of experience, or PhD with 5+ years of experience Training and aptitude in biochemistry or biophysics Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering or related field with 10+ years of independent research experience. Strong verbal and written communications skills Demonstrated ability to develop software for scientifically relevant problems in chemistry or biochemistry/biophysics Demonstrated ability to develop mathematical models for solving problems in chemistry/biochemistry/biophysics Building teaming between diverse scientific groups Successful demonstration of obtaining external funding Experience leading broad scientific teams.
