  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US DOE Q security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Ph.D. degree in mechanical civil applied engineering or other applicable engineering field
  • Structural dynamics analysis experience (e.g. component and system level analysis considering steady-state and transient disturbances)
  • Experience interacting with test engineers (e.g. support test design with modeling/simulation correlate dynamic test data to structural dynamics simulation predictions)
  • Basic familiarity with modern substructure modeling such as Craig-Bampton substructuring
  • Programming/scripting experience with Matlab or Python
  • Demonstrated ability to document and present findings
  • Existing US DOE Q security clearance

About Our Team:

The Multi-Physics Modeling and Simulation Department at Sandia National Laboratories California conducts a wide range of computational simulations including linear-elastic static; large-deformation nonlinear structural dynamics; hydrodynamics; and solid mechanics. To complete these simulations the department uses a variety of state-of-the-art analytical tools. Typical departmental programs include the following: detailed structural and thermal analyses of weapon systems; analysis-based design guidance for weapon components; the development of forging and welding modeling capabilities; pressure vessel analyses including aging and failure; hydrodynamics modeling and simulations; and failure model development and implementation (metals and composites). In addition a current major departmental focus is the development of science-based failure models and mesh-convergent numerical methodologies.
